Best Places to eat in Amritsar
1 . Kesar Da Dhaba in Amritsar –
Looking for authentic Amritsari food, go no further! Kesar da Dhaba is THE PLACE to have some delicious, finger licking Punjabi food! We had ordered Paratha Thali which came with Chur Chur Lacha paratha, Maah di dal, palak paneer, Kadhai paneer, raita and salad. Every dish was cooked in pure ghee and was so delicious☺. The dal here is being cooked for more than 24 hours in slow flame and is heavenly tasty!
2. Bharawan Da Dhaba in Amritsar –
In case you are hesitant to have so much of desi ghee, Bharawan da Dhaba is a good alternate to Kesar Dhaba. It’s hardly 5 minutes’ walk from Golden temple. We had ordered Special Thali, Lassi and Masala Papad. One special thali was too heavy for my appetite and two of us had shared it. Food was delicious and mouth-watering!
3. Jalebi from Gurudas Ram in Amritsar –
No meal is complete without sweets. When in Amritsar, you gotta try some jalebis fried in desi Ghee (when in Punjab, you won’t find anything without Ghee). Gurudas Ram’s hot, tasty and crispy Jalebis are the most famous in Amritsar.
4. Lassi from Ahuja Milk Bhandar in Amritsar –
Punjabis and Lassi are synonymous. When in Amritsar, have as many glasses of lassi as you can because you will not find the same taste anywhere else in the world. One of the best places to have lassi is Ahuja Milk Bhandar. A perfect blend of thickness and sweetness. ☺
5. All India famous Kulcha/ Maqbool Kulcha Shop in Amritsar –
Any trip to Punjab will be incomplete without having the legendary Amritsari Kulchas. Imagine hot crispy flatbread filled with spicy mashed potato, dipped in butter and served with delicious Channa (Chickpeas) and tamarind and onion chutney. Oh god, I am craving for it so badly now!
Kulchas can be found in any nook and corner of Amritsar but one of my favourite places for trying the legendary kulchas is All India famous Kulcha at Maqbool Road. It is a small shop which serves probably the crispiest kulchas in Amritsar.
6. Guru Ka Langar at Golden Temple -
Guru ka Langar is a community feast served in the Golden Temple to all the devotees. It is the largest free kitchen in the world serving simple meals (dal, sabzi, roti and kheer) to lakhs of devotees each day. The best time to visit is during the morning when the Guru Granth Sahib is brought to the inner sanctum. After offering your prayers at Golden Temple, head over to the Langar.
7. Pooris from Kanha Sweets in Amritsar –
Kanha Sweets is a MUST visit place for breakfast in Amritsar. They serve Hot pooris with masala channa (chickpeas), tangy potato curry and salad. Don’t miss to order a glass of Lassi. Poori and lassi are the only items in the menu but trust me, you will not even need anything else!
8. Ram Lubhaya Aam Papad in Amritsar –
This place is opposite Kahna Sweets and offers the TANGIEST AAM PAPAD you will ever have! They also add green chutney and masala on the top which doubles the flavour. So digest the heavy Punjabi meals in Amritsari-way with some tangy Aam Papad. Also, dry aam papad can last longer so you can buy some aam papad for folks at home.
9. Kulcha Land in Amritsar –
One can’t get enough of these crispy, flaky kulchas cooked in open tandoor!
There are so many awesome places for eating the Amritsari kulchas. Kulcha Land is another great place to treat yourself with some Paneer or masala kulcha along with lassi!
10. Giani’s di special masala Chai –
Being a hardcore fan of ginger tea, I was not sure if I will like tea with almond and pistachios in it. But guess what, I ended up having two cups of the special chai. So start your day with a nice cup of special Chai, bread omelette and kachoris at Gianis. Reach before 9 AM or else you won’t be able to get your hands on the crispy kachoris.
11. Gulab Jamun from Sharma Sweets in Amristar –
To make your sweet tooth happy, head to Sharma Sweets for some Hot, Luscious and Super Soft Gulab Jamun which will melt in your mouth. Enjoy the bliss and thank me later.
12. Brijwasi Chat Bhandar in Amristar –
To take care of your chat cravings, Brijwasi Chat Bhandar is the most famous place in Amritsar. Papdi chat, aalo tikki, Sev puri, pani puri, bhel puri, dahi Bhalla. You name it and they have it all. So don’t miss to enjoy the mouth-watering spicy and delicious chat!
